Checked against the Health Canada nonprescription labelling (pediatric cough and cold 2009; acetaminophen 2016; levonorgestrel EC and body weight 2014); Canadian Paediatric Society statements; SOGC EC and vulvovaginitis guidelines; CAG and Canadian Dermatology Association guidance; checked 13 Oct 2026. Not affiliated with or endorsed by The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC).
Most items are triage decisions: the symptom picture, age, pregnancy status and red flags determine whether to recommend a product or refer.
Benzoyl peroxide for mild acne; avoid topical steroids on acne.
Use low-potency steroids on face and diaper area; generous emollients for eczema.
Topical terbinafine or clotrimazole for athlete's foot; refer nail infections.
Infants under 6 months: shade and clothing rather than sunscreen.
Cold sores: docosanol early; oral antivirals by prescription work better.
